Jinan Baotu Spring is one of the three famous scenic spots in Jinan, located in Lixia District, Jinan City. It is adjacent to Qianfo Mountain to the south, Quancheng Square to the east, and Wulongtan to the north. With an area of 158 acres, it ranks first among the 72 famous springs in Jinan. During Emperor Qianlong's southern tour, he conferred the title of "Number One Spring in the World" on Baotu Spring for its mellow and fresh tea.
Baotu Spring has a long history, dating back to the Shang Dynasty. According to scholar Wang Entian's research, the "music" recorded in the oracle bone inscriptions during the Yin King's ten sacrifices to conquer the barbarians was located in Baotu Spring in Jinan. Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty described it in his "Commentary on the Water Classic" as "a source of water surging like a wheel.
Baotu Spring Park was built and officially opened in 1956. After several expansions, it gradually developed into a spring stone park with springs as its main focus, expanding its area from less than 34000 square meters to 105000 square meters. In addition to Baotu Spring, there are also famous springs such as Shuyu Spring, Jinxian Spring, and Liuxu Spring in Baotu Spring Park. Numerous springs and famous historical sites such as Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall, Wang Xuetao Memorial Hall, and Li Kuchan Memorial Hall together form the Baotu Spring Park scenic area, making it the first spring themed park in Jinan City.
The reason for the formation of Baotu Spring is that it is located in the central area of Jinan City, where there are three major water systems: the Yellow River, Xiaoqing River, and Haihe River. The water resources are abundant and the utilization rate is high. The spring group is located in the Mount Taishan mountain terrain in the south, the Yellow River in the north, and the near river plain terrain in the north of the middle. It belongs to the Jinan spring hydrogeological unit subregion of the karst water hydrogeological area in the north wing of the Mount Taishan anticline. The overall terrain gradually decreases from south to north. At the same time, because the stratum leans to the north, the groundwater flow direction is basically from south to north.
The opening hours of Baotu Spring Park are from 7am to 10pm, with a ticket price of 40 yuan and half price for student tickets. Tourists can take buses or drive there, and there are multiple parking lots within the scenic area.
In Baotu Spring Park, visitors can enjoy clear springs, ancient buildings, and beautiful garden landscapes. In addition, the park will also hold activities such as the Spring Lantern Festival and Chrysanthemum Exhibition at specific times.
